Ozone. You canصt see it, touch it or taste it.

High above the Earth, ozone is good. This invisible gas absorbs the sunشs burning rays and keeps them from reaching our skin.
يكون الأوزون مفيد عاليا فوق الأرض. هذا الغاز غير المرئي يمتص أشعة الشمس الحارقة و يحفظها من الوصول إلى جلدنا.
But down near Earthشs surface, ozone isnشt good. Itشs the main ingredient in smog. And it can damage our lungs and other tender tissues by a process known as oxidation.
و لكن في الأسفل و قرب سطح الأرض, فإن الأوزون ليس مفيدا. إنه المكون الأساسي في الضباب الدخاني. و يمكن أن يؤذي رئتانا و نسج دقيقة أخرى بعملية تعرف بالأكسدة.
The sun is a good chemist. It likes to rearrange the chemicals that our cars and factories spew out after burning gasoline and other fossil fuels, such as coal and natural gas. Ozone is one of the products the sun makes from the exhaust gases. When these gases build up in the air, and the sun is bright and hot, ozone levels soar.
إن الشمس كيميائية جيدة. تحب أن تعيد ترتيب المواد الكيماوية التي تنفثها عرباتنا و معاملنا بعد حرق البنزين و وقود المستحاثات مثل الفحم و الغاز الطبيعي. و الأوزون هو أحد المنتجات التي تنتجها الشمس من غازات العوادم. عندما تتركب هذه الغازات في الهواء و تكون الشمس مشرقة و حارة, ترتفع مستويات الأوزون.
When that happens, you may hear about an OZONE ALERT on the radio or TV. People are advised to stay indoorsرespecially children and the very old.
و عندما يحدث ذلك, يمكن أن تسمع إنذار أوزون على الإذاعة أو التلفزيون. و ينصح البشر بالبقاء داخل منازلهم – خاصة الأطفال و المتقدمين بالعمر.
But we humans arenصt the only living things that suffer from ozone pollution. Plants have an even tougher time. They are more sensitive to ozone than people, and they canصt come indoors.
و لكننا نحن البشر لسنا الكائنات الحية الوحيدة التي تعاني من تلوث الأوزون. حتى النباتات تمر بأوقات عصيبة. فهي أكثر حساسية للأوزون من البشر و لا تستطيع الدخول إلى منازل.

يؤذي الأوزون محاصيل مختلفة بطرق مختلفة. و عادة لا تفقد محاصيل تنتمي لعائلة الأعشاب – الذرة و القمح -غلة كما محاصيل مثل فول الصويا , الفول السوداني و القطن.
